Easy Rider filming location: Las Vegas, New Mexico

Easy Rider. One of the great films of the 1960s, and one of few road trip stories in American culture where the characters travel from west to east. During my summer 2021 visit to New Mexico, I just had to find an Easy Rider filming location to visit... And indeed, I found one in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The image above is from the jail scene in Easy Rider. This is the scene where Nicholson is released from jail on the public intoxication charge and agrees to travel with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Here's the scene on YouTube: "Here's to old D.H. Lawrence." Nicholson says as he has a drink on the sidewalk here.

Here's the same location in August of 2021. The jail in the film is a place called Tito's Gallery.
